At Generate, our design leads are dually responsible for communicating with their project lead to align the team with the goals of their client and enabling autonomous prototyping within their team. A design lead is enthusiastic about the design process, capable of solving design problems for a client, and confident in leading a team of talented designers in order to execute their scope. Design leads promote growth within their team’s design skills, and aid in developing beautiful software projects through an iterative design and feedback process.

Design leads are expected to be the primary manager for the designers on their team. This involves ensuring design work stays on track through mentoring newer designers, delegating tasks, and contributing to the designs themselves. A design lead maintains almost constant communication with their project lead, but is expected to report to the chief designer for technical updates.

Roles, Responsibilities, yada yada

• Lead team members in technical design work
• Communicate with the chief designer and software director to plan, schedule, and run design reviews which provide feedback to team members on a regular basis
• Assist the project lead in developing a semester long project scope, and ensuring the team stays on track to fulfill the scope
• Assist in interviewing, evaluating, and hiring build studio designers for their team during December and January
• Communicate with the project lead to help create and delegate development goals for the team over the course of the semester
